Studies show that Indians spend an average of 30% on unplanned spending, while financial experts recommend saving 20% of their income. This unplanned spending makes reaching that savings goal feel impossible. MoneyPlanned intends to bridge this gap between income and savings with budgeting tools and clear goal setting, and to take control of their finances.

Vision

To become the go-to-platform for financial planning, investments and advices.

90% of people are financially illiterate in India. We want to make saving and investment easy for people in India, We want people to move from "worrying about money" to "having an exciting future".

Short-term goal

Multiple goal options for the users, increasing their engagement and making it easier for them to track their money and invest on regular basis.

Long-term goal

Motivating users to do all their transactions - such as MF, Insurance, Stocks, PPF, etc., through moneyplanned & encouraging them to subscribe to premium services.

All the typical occupation employees and Income range from 10LPA - 40LPA in age group between 25-35 years old.

What MoneyPlanned's active users need

Analysing Data from Users/Research/Insights

We analyzed data from user research and insights by creating detailed user personas, conducting competitor analysis, and comparing features to identify gaps and opportunities. Additionally, we developed empathy maps to better understand user emotions and motivations, ensuring our designs truly resonate with their needs.

Findings

High impacts

  1. Difficulty managing both business expenses and personal savings

  2. Balancing between savings for large goals and daily expenses

  3. Having an emergency fund for unexpected needs

Low impacts

  1. To save the amount for traveling and other needs

  2. For buying an expensive gadgets

The great dilemma

The greatest dilemma in designing an application like MoneyPlanned is we are making users create a defined goal by educating them to invest in stocks to double up their investment and achieve their goal in a quick period (eg. When a user aims to purchase a home, they can create a goal specifying “buy a home” and invest a designated amount monthly through SIP.) We want to educate them about SIP and other investment methods and keep the user retention rate high. These user needs lie in balancing complexity with simplicity.

Branding

We've maintained the essence of MoneyPlanned's identity while infusing it with a new energy to captivate users. Our goal? To deliver a super cool premium experience that resonates with our audience. A brand that feels both familiar and refreshingly new

Visual Identity

These primary colors, along with their gradients, create a sense of security, innovation, and premium quality. The thoughtful use of these hues ensures that our brand feels trustworthy and innovative, instilling confidence in our users from the moment they engage with the app. We chose the "Manrope" font for its clarity and professionalism, ensuring numbers are easy to read and the overall look is polished and premium.

Brand Keywords: Secure, Transparent, Growth, Modern, Innovation, Smart

Logo

MoneyPlanned, Automate and achieve your financial goals the easy way. The Brand mark is a paper folded to look like letter ‘M’ and mountain peak, the fluctuating nature of stocks and funds. It represents success and growth. Soft edges accentuate a friendly approach.

The final product

We aimed for a balance between usability and aesthetics. We opted for a glassmorphic design approach, incorporating 3D-looking 2D illustrations to impart a premium feel to our fintech app. Our design instills a sense of control and growth, ensuring users feel empowered and confident in managing their finances

Homepage

Our homepage design ensures users feel in control and confident in managing their finances.

Goal setting flow

We simplified the goal-setting process by iterating extensively to make it quick in 3 simple steps and user-friendly. Educating the users about funds their money is invested in.

Goal tracking flow

We designed the goal tracking flow to be engaging and enjoyable, transforming the process of building financial goals into a fun experience. Users can easily monitor their progress with a lively, interactive interface that keeps financial management exciting.

Engaging UI

The interface gives the confidence for users to make important financial decisions. With interactive elements and a lively design, we ensure the experience is both dynamic and user-friendly, making financial management more fun.

Human-friendly UX copy

We crafted creative, human-like UX copy to make the app feel more personal and approachable. This friendly language helps users feel connected and engaged, as if they're interacting with a helpful companion rather than just an app.

Scalabality

All components have been designed with visual consistency as a priority, ensuring that instances are created and maintained across multiple screens and layouts.

Feebacks

After the various user testing of the prototype with multiple users we got a question "how can we adjust the portfolio better?" to address this question we implemented "rebalancing portfolio" option which gives users the best way to rebalance it.

"The dark mode"

At the last minute, our clients requested a dark mode design for the app. Despite the tight timeline, we swiftly implemented this feature and even created a dark mode cheat sheet for seamless integration

Key learnings

Working on the MoneyPlanned app, which has a user base of over 150,000 active users, yielded significant results. We achieved significant metrics. These metrics underscore the success of our design approach and highlight the effectiveness of the changes implemented. Through this project, I gained profound insights in

  1. Enhancing user motivation and engagement

  2. Gained deeper knowledge of investments and long-term money planning.

  3. Learned the intricacies of fintech transactions.

  4. How to balance complexity with usability

  5. Understood what builds user trust for financial apps.

  6. Discovered strategies to encourage investment from users who are not financially savvy.

This will guide me in crafting solutions that are not only effective but also user-centric, ultimately leading to more successful and engaging digital experiences.
